How to draw a shamrock with two simple shapes.
Today we are drawing a Shamrock just in time for St. Patrick’s day and it couldn’t be easier.
A shamrock is 2 made up of just 2 simple shapes, a heart and a rectangle.
Supplies for drawing and coloring shamrocks
Supplies you’ll want to have on hand:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Black marker for outlines
- Green Crayons or colored pencils, markers or even water colors if you wanted to paint it.
How to draw a shamrock easy step-by-step
Let’s get started:
First, let’s make sure our paper is landscape, that means sideways like a train.
Artist tip: point to the middle of your paper with your finger.
This will tell your eyes how much space you have to draw in. It does not have to be exact!
Ok! Let’s draw!
First let’s put a dot where we just had our finger. We will use this dot as the middle of our shamrock.
Drawing a shamrock with a heart shape
Now let’s draw a heart, starting almost at the top of the page and ending at the dot in the middle.
To draw a heart:
1. A heart is a long “C” shape.
Start above the “dot” about 4 fingers width up.
Drawing the “C”, go up over and then down to the dot.
2. The other side of the heart will be the same thing, just opposite.
Start at the same starting point, going the opposite way; up and over, stretching it down to the dot.
Hearts can be tricky, the sides do not have to be even. Make sure you are drawing light until you get it right!
3. Next, we are going to draw a heart on each side of this heart, they should all end at the same point.
You can turn your paper if that helps you to make them the same size.
How to draw a shamrock stem
Let’s add a stem.
This will be a long rectangle shape also starting at the middle dot, going down, maybe give it a curve to the side.
Make it as long as the hearts are, so it looks proportionate.
Now, for the color!
You can use as many shades of green as you like. I did!
We are the Artists, so it’s our choice.
Next, outline your drawing with the black marker, this will help the drawing POP!
I did the outside only.
There you go… You’ve done it!
A Shamrock to make you lucky this year.
Let’s see what else we can draw together…next time.
