Inside: How to draw a cross just in time for Easter.
Hello Artists! Today we are going to draw a Cross.
The basic shape of a Cross is simple, a lower case “t” shape, which should make this drawing project easy to start.
However, we are Artists! We can make it even better!
So here we go…
Supplies for drawing
Supplies you’ll need to sketch a cross:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Colored pencils/Crayons/Markers
- *Ruler (or any straight edge)
Drawing crosses step by step
Let’s get started:
Make sure your paper is portrait, that means tall like a tower.
Artist tip: This is the first step every time; point to the middle of your paper with your finger.
This will tell your eyes how much space you have to draw in. It does not have to be exact!
Draw a dot.
Step 1. From the middle dot, 2 finger widths up, put another dot. This will be the center of our Cross.
Step 2. Now, draw a horizontal line through the dot, not going completely to the edges.
Step 3. Next, draw a vertical line through the dot, again not completely to the edges. This is your basic Cross shape.
You could stop here if you wanted to…but then where would we add COLOR!
Step 4. Still with me, GOOD! Ok, from here draw a long X through the middle of the Cross, it will be more flat.
We want it to be close to the horizontal line on each side.
Step 5. Then do the same for the vertical line, a TALL X shape through the middle of the cross..
Step 6. Now, connect the main Cross shape to the X shape, using a short curved line. One for each X line.
Step 7. Erase the X lines in the middle area, keep only the main Cross lines. Add a curve to the middle area where the lines meet.
How to color a cross
The Best step: COLOR! Add whatever colors you like.
Artist tip: add lines coming from the middle area outward, giving the Cross some shine.
There you go… You’ve done it and successfully drawn a cross!
Let’s see what else we can draw together…next time.
