Inside: How to Draw a Pumpkin using the simple letters of D & C.
Today we are drawing a Pumpkin. Pumpkins are a staple in any Autumn scene, plus we love to carve them for Halloween!
Before they are jack o’lanterns or PSL’s, they grow all summer on a vine.
Let’s draw a beautifully ripe pumpkin.
Supplies
Supplies you’ll need to draw your pumpkin for fall:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
Colored pencils or crayons, markers
Artist tip: As with any drawing it’s important to recognize how much space you are working with.
To do this, point to the middle of your paper with your finger or pencil. This will tell your eyes how much space you have to draw in.
It does not have to be exact! This time we are going to draw a dot there, lightly.
Let’s get started:
How to draw a pumpkin
1. First above the middle dot, we are going to put another dot, maybe 3 finger width above it.
Then about 4 finger widths from the bottom of the page put another dot, have it be in line with the first dot.
This will give us a spacial awareness of where our lines will be meeting.
2. Draw a curved line between the 2 dots, like a reverse C shape. Up, over, down and back up again.
3. Let’s put a line down the middle as well, it does not have to be perfectly straight.
4. Draw the C shape on the other side, most of this pumpkin will be symmetrical meaning we do the same thing on each side.
5. Now, add another C shape to each side, starting from the previous shape, just a little bigger this time
6. And ANOTHER, just a LITTLE bit bigger than that one!
How to draw a pumpkin stem & details
1. Now, add a stem, this will be a long curved triangle pointing to the top center of the pumpkin.
2. Add details: to draw a pumpkin with it’s vine with a few leaves attached, you’ll loop them right off the stem.
3. Outline with black marker, Add a horizon line in the background so our pumpkin is not floating!
How to color a pumpkin
The BEST part: COLOR!
Artist tip: use different shades of the same color to add depth. Add a shadow too!
You’ve now drawn a beautiful fall pumpkin to enjoy!
Let’s see what else we can draw together… next time.
