First thing every time, let’s make sure our paper is landscape, that means sideways like a train.

Artist tip: point to the middle of your paper with your finger. This will tell your eyes how much space you have to draw in. It does not have to be exact!

How to draw a circle

1. Let’s draw! Start with a medium-size circle, there should be room around all sides of your circle for the sun rays. Remember to draw light until you get it right. Light lines are easier to erase.

A good circle might take a little practice and that’s ok!

Here are a few hints for drawing a great circle:

  • Use your full arm including your should and not just your wrist when drawing the circle.
  • Practice drawing squares and circles to touch each side, which should give you a perfect circle.
  • Feel free to use a cup if needed when you are starting out to draw a sun easy that will be ‘almost” freehand!

2. Next, let’s draw long triangle shapes coming off of the circle. Top, bottom, side and other side!

These should almost touch the sides of the paper to create a good balance to the shape and design.

4. Now for the Fun part: color! I chose yellow and orange yellow.

As the artist you can choose any colors you like. Take your time and try not to leave white spaces.

There you go! You’ve done it! The Sun!

Let’s see what else we can draw together…next time.
