Yum! Today we are drawing a pretzel.
Pretzels are one of those things you see all the time, but when it comes to drawing it you might *not* really remember what it looks like. How does it twist again
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Crayons or colored pencils
- White marker
Let’s get started:
First, let’s make sure our paper is landscape, that means sideways like a train.
Artist tip: point to the middle of your paper with your finger.
This will tell your eyes how much space you have to draw in. It does not have to be exact!
How to outline a pretzel
1. First, draw a large and wide U shape. Remember to draw light.
2. Add the curved line to the top of both sides of the U shape.
These lines will come towards the middle but NOT meet.
Then they will go diagonally across the U shape and right pass through the bottom line.
3. Do that for both sides.

4. Now, it’s a REALLY thin pretzel.
Let’s give it some thickness; draw a line inside the first U shape we drew.
Follow that line through the whole pretzel and curve off the edges.
5. The BEST step: COLOR! As the artist you can choose any colors you like.
I’ve chosen 2 shades of brown and some yellow, for light and dark areas. I’ve also added white spots for the salt.
You can add a background or more, maybe a whole rack of hot pretzels, DELICIOUS!
There you go! You’ve done it! A Pretzel!
Let’s see what else we can draw together…next time.
